Napkin Folding Video : Napkin folding waves - Pliage en vagues
For folding napkins in waves, begin with the napkin fully opened on the table in front of you. Take the bottom right and left corners and fold upwards until they meet the top left and right corners. Smooth out the crease of your fold at this step, and each time you execute a fold.
Grasp the left side of the napkin and act as if you are going to flip it completely over so that it is face down. However, leave about three inches of the right side of the napkin on the table, and fold over them. Place a hand over the creased section to hold it in place. Pat lightly from top to bottom, to secure the crease.
Now take the right side of the napkin and fold it in the other direction. This will create another layer on top of the 3 inch layer you just created, only this time make the top layer a bit smaller (about two-thirds of the size of the layer beneath it). Straighten out the top of the new layer to ensure it is uniform and tidy. Pat it down lightly to secure the crease, as usual. To verify you have created this second layer correctly, you should see about an inch or so exposed of the layer beneath it.
Take the left side of the napkin and begin to fold it over to create the third layer. Again, make sure that about an inch or so of layer 2 is exposed underneath it. Pat down your crease.
You will now proceed to add the final touch. Take the top left corner and fold it backward and toward the center, so that it is underneath the napkin. This should create a mild slant at the top of the napkin's left side.
