Napkin Folding Video : Napkin folding peacock - Pliage en queue de paon
To fold a napkin into a peacock shape, begin with your napkin fully opened on the table in front of you, in a square shape. Fold it in half horizontally, forming a horizontally elongated rectangle. Smooth out the wrinkles by placing both hands in the center and moving the to the outer edges.
Grasp the bottom left and right corners and fold up one third of the way up the napkin. You are now viewing a horizontally elongated rectangle with a smaller rectangle one third of the way up, starting from the bottom.
The larger rectangle at the top comprises two layers of cloth. Lift it and halve it. Flip the top edge of this fold backward and downward, so that edge ends up located underneath the smaller rectangle at the bottom. Firmly press both hands in the center of your work in progress and proceed to flatten and smooth it out from the center moving to the outer edges.
Rotate the entire napkin 90 degrees clockwise. Perform another brief pass of flattening and smoothing. Starting from the bottom, create a fan pattern by alternating folds over and under. Each fold should be approximately 2 inches wide. When you have finished creating the “fan blades,” grasp the right side and release the left side, which will cause the blades to fan out on the left side.
Rotate the napkin 90 degrees clockwise so that the tips of your fan blades face upward, away from you. Each blade has three layers which overlap each other vertically. In the crevice between each blade, fold each layer closest to you completely downward. Next, fold each layer in the middle slightly down in a decorative manner.
Your peacock shaped napkin is now ready to be displayed.
